Obituary of Joan B Ahders
JOAN B. AHDERS
1932 – 2023
Joan B. Ahders, 91, of New Hartford, NY, and formerly of Deansboro and East Islip, NY, passed away peacefully at the Presbyterian Home on Saturday November 18, 2023, with her loving family by her side.
Joan was born on August 25, 1932, in Manhattan, N.Y., daughter of the late John P. and Rose L. Bresseleers (Shimol). She was united in marriage to Howard Ahders at St. Mark’s Church in Islip, Long Island, NY in 1955, a blessed union of over 68 years. Joan graduated from SUNY Oswego with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She went on to teach at Military School in Aberdeen, Maryland. Joan loved to spend her free time reading and with needlepoint, cross-stitch, and embroidery. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whether at the family summer cottage in Walton, vacationing locally or on several European riverboat cruises.
Joan is survived by her husband Howard Ahders, a son, Howard “Ward” Ahders Jr. and daughter-in-law Robyn Ahders, of Melbourne, FL, a daughter, Kim Goodson and partner Robert Pentasuglia of Marcy, former son-in-law, Mark Goodson, of Deansboro, grandchildren, Jason Ahders, Alexandra Ahders, Brienne Goodson-Beck and husband Charles, Paige Goodson, a great-granddaughter, Lila Joan, a sister, Adrienne Leibundgut, of Norwich, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.
The family extends thanks and gratitude to caregivers Debbie White, Pamela Fleming, Michelle Phillips, and the staff at the Presbyterian Home for all their care and support.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 11:00 am, at Deansboro Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
