Obituary of Patricia A. Turczyn

Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Patricia A. Turczyn,76, of Westmoreland, passed away Tuesday November 14, 2023 with her loving family by her side.

Patricia was born in Utica, NY a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (LaPorte) Arcuri. She attended Utica schools and graduated from Proctor High School in 1964. She married the love of her life William “Bill” Turczyn on April 28, 1973 in Marcy, NY and they shared a loving union of over 50 years. Patricia dedicated many years of her career to the Mohawk Valley Psychiatric Center, serving as a therapy aid before her retirement in 2007.

Patricia's profound affinity for animals, particularly German Shepherds and cats, was a defining aspect of who she was. Her home was a haven for furry companions (and even some not so furry pets), and she dedicated countless hours to the well-being of animals in need. Patricia's heart overflowed with kindness, and her bond with her German Shepherds (Gidget, Kayla, Desi, Brammy, Leda, Minnie and Maggie) and cats was a testament to the unconditional love she showered upon them. Patty was known to take in many a stray cat or dog and provide shelter whenever possible. Even the animals she couldn’t house were always fed and one need look no farther than the unusually overweight squirrels, woodchucks and birds that happened to live near her.

Food and feeding people was Patricia’s love language. She loved to cook and when she did it was enough to feed a small army. Much to Bill’s chagrin even years after with an empty nest she still loved to cook and grocery shop for 6. She took pride in making traditional Italian meals and especially her Sausage and Spinach rolls and Casatta at Easter. It was always said that you would know if she loved you because she would plumpen you up with her meals.

Patricia embraced the simple pleasures in life during her retirement. She found joy in the long drives her husband Bill would take her on. Additionally, her cherished pastimes included frequent visits to the Turning Stone Casino and Sylvan Beach.

Ever the prankster Patricia cherished her family and delighted in both playing pranks on them and being on the receiving end of their playful antics.

In her later years, Patricia faced a challenging battle with dementia, a journey marked by both grace and resilience. Throughout this difficult time, Bill’s unwavering love and devotion were a constant source of comfort and strength. He never left her side, visiting her multiple times a day at the Sitrin Nursing Home. Not even a global pandemic could keep Bill from his beloved wife as he continued daily visits on the outside looking in through the window. His steadfast presence and care were a true testament to the depth of their bond and the enduring power of love through life’s toughest challenges.

Patricia will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Bill; children, Faith Turczyn, Vincent and Karen Turczyn, William and Brandi Turczyn, Mary Beth and Erik Hyde; six grandchildren, Daniella, Sean, Angeline, Davina, William and Chloe; and a brother, Anthony Arcuri. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Joanne Cadieux.
