Obituary of Daniel J. Beigel
Daniel J. Beigel, 82 of Clinton, NY, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, with his family by his side.
Dan was born November 7, 1940, in Albany, NY, son of the late Regis and Margaret Enright Beigel. Growing up in a loving family of eight children, Dan graduated from Vincentian Institute and in 1963 from the College of the Holy Cross. On November 19, 1966, he and Barbara A. Duffy were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Church in Cortland, NY by her cousin, Father Jerome Loftus. He worked as an accountant and comptroller for several local businesses: Mohawk Data Sciences, Carl’s Drugs, Divine Bros., and in Massachusetts, Ernst & Ernst and Meder Electronic.
Dan was an active member of the Clinton community for many years, including the Clinton School district Board of Education, Clinton School Foundation, Clinton Sports Booster Club, “A Better Chance” resident director, Rotary Exchange Student program, K.A.C. Run founder, St. Mary’s School Cross Country coach, Clinton High School Track & Field official, Lion’s Club, and Boilermaker Road Race organizing committee member in its earlier years.
Dan had a love of sports especially football and running. As a senior at V.I., he won the 1958 All-Albany award, and then was awarded a full scholarship to Holy Cross to play football. He has been a runner all his life, participating in many marathons and road races wherever he found one, and especially loved running clubs and daily runs with his wife, kids or friends. In 1999, Dan was honored by being inducted into the Vincentian Institute Hall of Fame.
His greatest love was his family: wife, Barbara Beigel and his children, Kurt Beigel of Boise, Idaho, Brian and Amy Beigel of Natick, MA, Ann and Masa Kito of Voorheesville, NY, Duffy and Amy Beigel of Charlotte, NC, and Daniel Beigel and Laura Hernandez of Portland, OR. He also leaves nine grandchildren: Abby, Ellie and Teagan, Julia and Gavin, Owen, Caroline, Bethany and Silas. He leaves brothers Peter (Leona) Beigel of Colonie, NY, Regis Beigel of Nashua, NH, John (Natalie) Beigel of N. Falmouth, MA, and sisters Mary Sesselman of Ballston Lake, NY, Georgianna Serson of Ballston Spa, NY, Peggy (Richard) Keigley of Greenfield Center, NY, Annie Beigel of Bonita Springs, FL., and brother-in-law George Duffy of Verona Beach, NY. Dan was pre-deceased by sisters-in-law Cathy Beigel and Nancy Duffy (of Syracuse, NY), and brother-in-law Joseph Sesselman. He also leaves many loved and admired nieces and nephews, as well as so many friends of his children and the students of the ABC program, whom he treated as his own children.
