Obituary of Richard D. Petrie

Richard D. Petrie, 72, of Remsen, passed away May 12, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born May 1, 1941, a son of Burton and Evelyn Petrie. He attended Westmoreland Schools and Mohawk Valley Community College, attaining an associate's degree in mechanical engineering. He retired from Special Metals Corporation after 42 years. In 1966 Dick served in the US Marine Corps and was a longtime member of the Clark Mills American Legion Post 0026. On March 24, 1962 he married Joann L. Effland at the Church of Annunciation in Clark Mills. Dick loved to help others and was known for being a jack of all trades. He very much enjoyed camping, boating, snowmobiling, and fishing. Dick is pre-deceased by his parents; his sister, June Busco (Anthony); and great-grandson Avery. He is survived by his wife, Joann L. Petrie of Verona Beach; his daughter and sons-in-law, Deborah and Daniel Daskiewich of Westmoreland; Son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Angel Petrie of Verona Beach; Grandchildren, Aimee Johns (Katy), Kyle (Jessica) and Bryan Zoeckler (Brittany), Brandon Worley, Caitlin and Jakob Petrie, and Bryce and Austin Daskiewich; sister, Barbara Nelson (Bob); and brother, James Petrie (Dorothy). A graveside service for Dick will be held on Friday at 11 am at St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Mary's Ave., Clinton.
