Obituary of Daniel F. Melie

Daniel F. Melie, 59, of Clinton, passed away unexpectedly September 27, 2022. 

He was born July 19, 1963, the son of the late Frank R. and Mary Jane (Nester) Melie. Danny graduated from Peru High School and received his degree from SUNY Canton. He was united in marriage to Roxanne Altizer on June 27, 1987 in Peru, NY.  He was the base engineer at Eastern Air Defense Sector in Rome for the past 33 years.  For many years, Danny worked at Nester Brothers alongside his cousin and best friend, Johnny Nester.  He served his community as a past officer for Clinton Fire Department and was instrumental in the success of the Learn to Play Hockey Program in Clinton.  He enjoyed hunting, riding on his 4-wheeler and any activity outdoors.  His favorite times were spent playing basketball and hockey in the driveway with his boys and coaching them on the ice. 

Danny will be missed by his beloved wife, Roxanne; and his two sons, Daniel W. and McKenzie Melie and Corbin J. Melie of Clinton; his cherished grandson Lincoln; and a special niece Marissa Downs (Jordan Mason), brother-in-law Chuck Downs, and mother-in-law Priscilla Altizer. He will be dearly missed by his special Uncle Jack (Nester) and his cousins who were more like siblings. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister Renee Downs; and niece Mallory Downs-Ivanowsky. 

We’d like to thank the ICU staff at St. Luke’s hospital for all their kindness and compassion during this time.  

All are invited to call Monday, October 3, 2022, from 4-7pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College St., Clinton.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton.  He will be buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
