Obituary of Teresa Nolan
Teresa Nolan, 63, passed away on September 25, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Her final moments were a fitting tribute to her vibrant life, surrounded by family, friends, and good music to dance to.
Teresa was born on October 29, 1958, in Utica, New York to Joseph “Indian Joe” and Ellen Blake Nolan. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1977. She was a member of the Clinton Central Alumni Reunion Committee.
Teresa lived her life in service of others. Whether you were a customer, friend, or family, Teresa’s first instinct was always to make sure you were fed and happy. And then fed just a little bit more.
For 44 years, she served the community of Clinton as a waitress at Alteri’s Restaurant, and she was truly an expert at her craft. Teresa took great care to treat every customer like family, committing countless names, orders, and personal details to memory over the decades. To Teresa, no one was a stranger, only eventual friends.
Teresa brought joy and fun with her everywhere she went. She celebrated life with upbeat music, delicious food, and uproarious laughter every chance she got. No matter the sport, Teresa never missed an opportunity to cheer on the athletes in her life. Her love and her support was always the loudest. Can we get a “Hey, ho!”
While Teresa did not have children of her own, being around them was one of the greatest joys of her life. It was not uncommon to see Teresa pushing a stroller down College Street. Teresa helped raise many generations of children for friends and family who lived in Clinton; she was the town’s very own Mary Poppins. And when those closest to her were all grown, Teresa dedicated her time as a volunteer at St. Mary’s School.
Teresa is survived by her siblings, Donna “Bess” Nolan, Sean Nolan, Joe and Marylisa Nolan, Matt and Carrie Nolan, her beloved uncle John “Jack” Nolan (Pam), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She also leaves behind her second loving family, the Alteri’s, with whom she shared a home and a lifetime of cherished memories.
Teresa was predeceased by her father and mother Joe and Ellen Nolan, her brother Jim Castleberry, and her brother Joel Nolan.
All are invited to call Sunday, October 2, 2022, from 3-6 PM at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Monday at St. Mary’s Church, Clinton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care or Clinton Central School Dollars for Scholars at Teresa Nolan Memorial Scholarship and use drop-down to select the fund in Teresa's memory.
