Obituary of Rex L. Nichols Sr.
Rex L. Nichols Sr., a life-long resident of Franklin Springs, died at the age of 98 at his home on August 2, 2022, with his family present. He was born May 6, 1924, a son of Burton E. and Ethel Nichols. He was united in marriage to Betty Fox on June 16, 1944. He missed her dearly after her death on February 13, 1997. After mom had been gone for so many years, he met Mary Helen Gerth who was a special friend we all loved. Rex Sr. was a partner with his son, Rex Jr in Nichols Pickup Boxes.
He is survived by his son Rex Jr and wife Janet of Vernon and their dog Tommy; daughter Sharon Failing who lived next door to her dad in Franklin Springs; his beloved German Shepherd Toby; grandson Russell Nichols of NC; great-grandson Cody and fiancee Rheanna; great-great-grandchildren, Lucas and Lilly; daughter-in-law Mary Anne Gaffney and her husband Mike; granddaughter Renee and Mark Flanders of Clifton Park; great-grandson Travis; step-granddaughter Chris Dicks and husband Michael of Ohio; step-grandson Darin Checchia and girlfriend Dania Bennett of New Hartford; step-great-granddaughter Emily Morar and husband David Morar of Ohio; niece Linda and Mel Martin; nephews, Mike Pfohl and Bill Pfohl. Dad had so many friends that loved him. Just to name a few: Lisa and Virginia Kolek, Christine Nichols (Addison’s wife), Angie, Bonnie, Carol, Pam, Charlene, Ernie, John, along with good neighbors Gisela and Tony Brongo, and John Calidonna and family our special neighbors and who have always been there for us. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife Betty; his brother Addison Nichols in 2010; sister Janice Pfohl in 2011.
Private services will be held for the family. Rex will be laid to rest next to his wife Betty at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service.
