Obituary of Hazel Vee Ferris

Hazel Vee Ferris, 91, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville, NY. She was born in Cedar County, Missouri on June 24, 1921, the daughter of Denver D. and Alice S. (Beaty) Grimes. She graduated from Humansville Central School and Springfield School of Beauty to become a licensed cosmetologist and beautician. In St. Louis Gonzaga Church in Utica, she married John Peter Ferris on September 12, 1943. Hazel operated Su-Den Salon in Clark Mills for many years. The couple resided in Utica, Clark Mills, Camillus and Leland Pond in Bouckville. After John's death, Hazel moved to Syracuse to be close to her family. She was a member of the Home Bureau, Leland Pond Association, NYS Hairdressers' Association and was active with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Hazel also enjoyed golf and bowling. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jon Dennis and Sonja Ferris Sr. of Liverpool; her daughter, E. Susan Ferris of Syracuse; two grandchildren and their spouses, Deborah and James Miller of Syracuse and Jon Dennis and Ashley Ferris Jr. of Lancaster; three great-grandsons, Brandyn and Jacob Miller of Syracuse and Stone Ferris of Lancaster; her two step-grandchildren, Vernon and his wife, Bernadette Roberson of Syracuse and Sonja Lynn Potocki of SC; two step-great-grandchildren, Michael Potocki of SC and Alivia Potocki of Syracuse; many nieces, nephews, special relatives and friends. All are invited to call Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 2-5pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday, February 18, 2013 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
