Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Macleod

Mary Elizabeth MacLeod, 87, passed away February 8, 2022. Mary was born in Lenox, MA on October 14, 1934, the older daughter of the late George W. and Mary Agnes (Kirby) Murphy. After serving as valedictorian and lead in class plays at Lenox High School, she graduated in 1956 from University of Massachusetts - Amherst with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She met Malcolm Macleod at UMass, and they married on May 11, 1957. After moving around for many years with Malcom’s career, they finally settled in Clinton in 1978, where they shared many wonderful years until Malcolm’s death on September 28, 1986. Mary will be remembered for her natural kindness and loyalty. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to cook for her family. She enjoyed riding her bike and walking around town. Mary was a bird watcher, loved to garden, and was a fan of “The Duke” and old movies like Red River. She was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church. Mary is survived by her four children, Bruce MacLeod of MA, Laura Miller of NC, Joseph MacLeod of MA, and Jack Macleod of MA; seven beloved grandchildren, Kelly Kinzie, Riley Miller, and Alexander, Quinn, Murphy, Daniel, and Robert MacLeod; and, finally, two cherished great-grandchildren, Leilani and Hon Kinzie. She was predeceased by her husband Malcom, her son Geoffrey, and sister Anne Hinman. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Noon on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. There will be no public calling hours. Her burial will be in the spring at Bemus Point Cemetery. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Clinton. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to MassAudubon.org.
