Obituary of Dorothy S. May

Dorothy S. May, 88, of Verona, passed away January 4, 2022. Dorothy was born in Brooklyn on September 12, 1933, a daughter of the late James R. and Dorothy (Anderson) Sears. She was united in marriage to Robert May on January 31, 1954. She was a registered nurse, whose career was spent at Oneida City Hospital and St. Joseph Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Later, she taught nursing at BOCES and then practiced in-home healthcare. She was an avid swimmer who could always be found at the Family YMCA in Rome for her 6 AM swim. Dorothy had a passion for horses and enjoyed horse camping at Brookfield, NY and Otter Creek, NY. She is survived by her husband, Robert; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Terry Card of Westmoreland and Barbara and Tim Gauthier of Fort Collins, CO; three grandchildren, Dirk and Rebekah Card of Waterville, Parker Gauthier of Austin, TX, and Wesley Gauthier of Fort Collins, CO; two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Caleb Card; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and George Fedor of NC and Evelyn and James Collins of Verona; a sister-in-law, Alice Sears of VT; and her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and a brother James Sears. A Memorial Service will be held in the Spring, 2022. Please consider donations in Dorothy’s memory to Rome Humane Society.
