Martin Thomas Murphy, born on July 16, 1927 in the Bronx, NY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.
A Clinton, NY resident for over half a century, he worked as a court stenographer and excelled as a jazz pianist. Music was his lifelong passion from his early days playing trumpet and touring the country with a Latin ensemble, through his time in the armed services and playing professionally well into his retirement. He was a member of various organizations, most notably as an auxiliary member of the Kirkland Renaissance Arts Performa. A devoted gardener, he loved the earth, all the things that grew on it as well as the creatures that walked it and flew above it.
Predeceased by his son Douglas in 1997, he is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Phyllis Murphy, daughters Karen Murphy and Beth Murphy and grandsons Aaron and Will Scales, as well as a sister, Muriel Palumbo.
Private services will be held for the family.
