Obituary of Phyllis J. Trost

Phyllis J. Trost, 81, of Clinton, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2021, with loving family by her side. She was born on June 14, 1940, a daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret (Nash) Kitchen. Phyllis graduated from Houghton College with her degree in Elementary Education and taught at New Hartford Schools for many years. She was united in marriage to Philip R. Trost on May 30, 1970 in Vernon. They shared 33 years of love and happiness before his passing on September 4, 2003. Phyllis was a devoted member of the Lairdsville United Methodist Church. She served as Treasurer for the United Methodist Women, Secretary of the Board, and taught Bible Study, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Phyllis was always eager to help with rummage and bakes sales, sang in the choir, and participated in the prayer chain. Phyllis thoroughly enjoyed teaching, which was evident by her regularly working as a substitute elementary teacher in Westmoreland and VVS Schools from the late 1970's until 2019. Phyllis was a voracious reader. She was a kind and gentle woman, except at card club where she played to win. Phyllis enjoyed times spent with her daughter and granddaughter most of all. She found pleasure in the simple things, and always put others before herself. She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Edick of Morrisville, beloved granddaughter Ashley Edick; sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlene and Robert Hauck of Disputanta, VA and Sharon and Randall Anno of Harmony, PA; brother and sister-in-law, Les and Lorraine Kitchen of Clinton; and many special nieces and nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband. All are invited to call Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 11am-1pm at Owen-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College St., Clinton. Funeral services will follow at 1pm at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest at Kirkland Prospect Cemetery. Please be respectful of current social distancing guidelines.
