Obituary of Joseph E. Reddy

Joseph E. Reddy, 76, of Oriskany Falls, passed away March 4, 2021, at Waterville Residential Care Center. Joe was born July 20, 1944, in White Plains, NY, the son of the late Joseph and Josianne (Bareau) Reddy. He graduated from White Plains High School and went on to further his education at SUNY Canton graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Joe accepted a job right out of college with the Utica National Insurance Group. He spent over 40 years in the claims department traveling all over the country as part of Utica’s Catastrophe Team helping people on their worse days recover from loss. He married the love of his life Barbara Colman on April 16, 1966. They would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary next month. They raised their family in Oriskany Falls, where he was an active member of the community. Joe was Mayor of Oriskany Falls from 1974 -1977 and was a Fire Commissioner for 25 years and Past President for Oriskany Falls Volunteer Fire Department where he has been a life member for 50 plus years. Over the years in the fire department Joe was chairman of numerous events including the annual Field Days, Snowmobile and Motocross Races. He also was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Brothertown Optimists, Past President of Utica Claims Association, and Sons of the American Legion Kelley-Philips Post #569. For years he was the Master of Ceremonies at the Oriskany Falls Memorial Day Parade. Joe was a diehard NY Yankees and Notre Dame Fan. If you couldn’t find Joe, the first place to look would be the golf course - his favorite past time. Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Christine Reddy; two daughters and a son-in-law, Michelle Reddy, and Shannon and Chris Peck; four grandchildren, Mitchell and Laura Peck and Brett and Daniel Longway; three sisters, Stephanie and Dominick DiMartino, Mona Falvey and Diane Corbitt; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathleen and George Eismon; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, James Reddy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Monday, March 8, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oriskany Falls. Please wear a mask and respect current social distancing guidelines. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service. Joe will be laid to rest in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the spring. At that time the family would love to get together with everyone at a Celebration of Joe’s Life.
