Obituary of Beverly M Clarey

Please share a memory of Beverly to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Beverly Kiefer Clarey passed away, with her family by her side, on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Upstate University Hospital after being struck by a motor vehicle on November 11, 2012 on Route 12 B in Clinton, NY. Beverly was born in Utica, NY the daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy (Dillon) Kiefer. She grew up and spent most of her life in Clinton, NY and attended Clinton Central School. In 1964 Beverly married Donald (Mike) Clarey and together they raised a son and daughter in Clark Mills, NY. Mike passed away in 1985. At the time of her death, Beverly was a dedicated employee with the Central Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) in Utica, NY and leaves behind many cherished friends and co-workers. It was at CABVI where she met her love and best friend Mark Knapp who passed away November 11, 2012 after being struck by a motor vehicle along with Beverly, while on one of their many walks together. Beverly was a selfless and loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She especially treasured the time she spent with her grandchildren. She was an avid baker who loved to share her treats with friends and family. We will miss her cookies, her presence at her grandchildren's performances and sporting events, and her resilience. Surviving Beverly are a son, Andrew, and daughter-in-law, Janet, and her three adored grandchildren Samuel, Rachel, and Drew of Clinton, NY. Beverly also leaves a daughter, Mary, of Utica, NY; a brother, Donald, and his wife, Dorothy of Stuart, Florida; sister-in-law, Myrna Kiefer of Waterville, NY; nieces Brenda (Russell) Buell and Cheryl Kiefer; nephew David Kiefer; and her Uncle Charles and Aunt June Kiefer of Old Forge, NY. Beverly also leaves behind many cousins, her lifelong friend Florence (John) Sadowski, good friend Sandy Climek and many friends at Mohawk Valley Apartments where she had lived for the past twenty years. She was pre-deceased by her former fiancé, Kim Torbitt, who passed away in 2008, and her sister and brother-in-law Shirley and John Jones. The Clarey family extends their gratitude to the Clinton Volunteer Fire Department, Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corporation, St. Elizabeth's Hospital and Mercy Flight who attended to Beverly after her accident as well as the staff of the surgical intensive care unit at Upstate University Hospital for their compassion and excellent care. Funeral services will be held at 7pm Thursday, December 13, 2012 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College Street, Clinton, New York with the Rev. Laurie Pauley officiating. Prior to the service, family and friends are invited and may call from 5-7pm Thursday. Please consider a donation in Beverly's honor to the Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 507 Kent St., Utica NY 13501.
