Obituary of Ruthe Meyers

Please share a memory of Ruthe to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruthe was born on March 10, 1922, in Utica, New York, the 3rd of 4 offspring (Saul, Bea and Millie) of Sam and Anna Meyers. At age 15, Ruthe left school to care for her family after her mother died. She then worked for Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, NY during WWII and at 21, moved to NYC. At a time when women were largely excluded from the business world, over the next 40+ years, she worked her way up from a mailroom job to officer of an international company. Ruthe retired to Florida to be with her family at age 62, where, for many years, she handled monthly luncheons for the Suncoast New Neighbors. She had many hobbies involving her artistic abilities and volunteered for a number of non-profit organizations. Ruthe passed away on the 2nd day of Hanukkah 2020, December 12, and will be buried in Utica, NY on December 18, 2020. To the day she passed, certain nieces and nephews often told Ruthe's friends, her caregivers, staff members, and others that they were their Aunt's favorite, only to be asked if they were, "so and so?” which just happened to be another niece or nephew's name. Ruthe made everyone in her family feel like they were her favorite. Ruthe was a force of nature who enjoyed family, travel and life. Her 80th birthday celebration was epic, as was her 90th birthday celebration at a local bowling lanes (one of her passions), and her 95th birthday celebration- another "girls’ trip" to Vegas with nieces plus a day at Harry Potter World. She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews (plus spouses), 20 grandnieces and grandnephews, 7.5 great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews and many others who loved her very much. The family requests donations in Ruthe’s memory be made to the Addington Place of Eastlake Staff Holiday Fund, 1755 East Lake Road, Tarpon Springs, FLA. 34688 and/or the Suncoast Hospice Care Center, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, Florida 33760.
