Lord Joseph Sylvester Yanchan, Jr., 79, of Clinton Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 with his family by his side at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
He was born August 4, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Joseph S. Yanchan Sr. and Leona Rachunok. He attended Queens College and served as an MP in the US Army and was an expert marksman. In 1957, at Holy Cross Church in Maspeth, NY, he was united in marriage to MaryAnn Wojciechowski, a blessed union of 55 years. The couple lived in Dix Hill for 36 years before moving to New Hartford in 1995. He was called to try-out for the NY Yankees. Joseph was a chemist with Warren Diamond Powder Company in College Point, NY for 25 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Church and New Hartford American Legion Post #1376. Joseph also studied and enjoyed classical music.
He is survived by his beloved wife, MaryAnn of New Hartford; his daughter, Christine Anastasia and son-in-law, Dr. Leo P. Sullivan of Clinton; his three grandchildren, Cecilia A. Sullivan of Manhattan, John L. Sullivan of Clinton and Thaddeus J. Sullivan of Clinton; and his sister Joanne Grappone, Levittown, NY.
All are invited to call Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 4-7pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian of Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at St. Mary's Church, Marvin Street, Clinton. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
The family thanks Dr. Brad Sklar, Dr. Robert Pavelock, Dr. Emil Wassel, Dr. Kevin Matthews, Dr. Leo Sullivan, Dr. Oehlsen, the entire endoscope staff and recovery unit, the 3rd and 4th floor Special Care Nurses, especially Wendy and Christina.
