Obituary of Gustave H Nelson

Gustave Henry "Pete" Nelson, 90, passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012 at his camp on the Black River. He was born in Gray, Town of Russia, NY on August 12, 1922, to Mary Grower and Gustave Nelson. He was raised in Gravesville, NY and worked on farms in the Franklin Springs and Deansboro, NY areas as a young man. He also worked in various garages and services stations in the area and then started working at Oneida Ltd. He married Beatrice E. Evans on June 2, 1945 in the Clinton United Methodist Church. The couple resided in Clinton until his retirement from Oneida Limited Silversmiths after over 37 years of service. They moved to their camp on the Black River to enjoy their golden years. Beatrice passed away on September 24, 2000. Gustave was a member of the Clinton United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Boonville Rod and Gun Club and Trailblazers Snowmobile Club. He was an avid outdoorsman: enjoying hunting, fishing, camping and snowmobiling. He is survived by his three daughters, Mary Ruth Nelson of Utica, Linda J Luchsinger and husband Thomas of Boonville and Catherine A. LaShure and husband David of North Utica; six grandchildren, Rory Nelson and his wife Christina of Deerfield, Cherie Gettman and husband Thomas of Boonville, Shawn Staring of Boonville, Christopher LaShure of Utica, Daniel LaShure and Andrew LaShure, both of N. Utica; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin Nelson, Elizabeth Gettman, Wyatt Staring, Zoey Staring and Carlie LaShure; sister-in-law, Ruth Nelson of Clinton; several nephews, nieces and many friends in the surrounding area and a cousin in Colorado; a very loyal companion, Shirley Edick, who will miss his company and friendship, as will his two dogs, Sassy and Teddy. He was predeceased by his parents; his stepfather, Fred Coleman; his wife, Beatrice; three brothers, Horace, Edward and Harvey Nelson; three sisters-in-law, MaryLou, Muriel and Helen; two brothers-in-law, John "Jack" and Carl "Smitty"; niece Patty and three nephews, Johnny, Richard "Dick" and Alan. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park.
