Obituary of Firman H Decker

Firman H. Decker, Jr., 84, of Reed Lane, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2012, at his home. Mr. Decker was born in Oneonta on March 9, 1928. He was the son of Firman H. and Lillian Mae Grosse Decker Sr. Mr. Decker was educated in Laurens High School. He married June Rose Newman in Maryland, NY on September 30, 1949. Prior to his retirement in 1990, Mr. Decker had been employed with Fischbach-Moore Electric, formerly the T.H. Green Electric Company, as a project manager. He was also a journeyman electrician and a member of the IBEW, Local 325 in Binghamton. Mr. Decker was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1946-1948 and was stationed at Barber's Point in Hawaii, next to Pearl Harbor, where he served as a yeoman for the base commander and worked on distributing purple hearts to wounded soldiers. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 1688 in Laurens and was a charter member of the Mount Vision Fire Department. Mr. Decker was baptized and confirmed in the Laurens Lutheran Church. Surviving besides June, his wife of 63 years, are; one son, Gerald M. and his wife Kathryn Decker of Spencer; two daughters, Kathy A. and her husband Floyd Jensen of Forestport and Paula S. and her husband Edward Holstein of Clinton; eight grandchildren, Nathan Decker and his wife Marcy, Michael Decker and his wife Jessica, Amber L. Decker, Tiffany and her husband Mark Hilton, Firman Jensen, Floyd Jensen III and his wife Carolee, Christine Jensen and Nina Rose Holstein; 13 great-grandchildren; one brother and hunting partner, George and his wife Tanya Decker of Mount Vision; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Helen Decker, Joan and Edgar Blake and David and Maggie Newman and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers and 1 sister-in-law, Charles and Gwen Decker and Richard Decker. Funeral services will be held 1PM Monday, from the Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College Street, Clinton, with the Reverend James DePue, officiating.
