Obituary of Charlotte K Hubal

Please share a memory of Charlotte to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Charlotte Kessler Hubal, age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday August 9, 2019, at the Masonic Home with her loving daughter by her side.

She was born July 13, 1941, a daughter of Jack and Dorothy (Hammon) Kessler. Charlotte grew up on the family farm in Westmoreland and graduated in 1959. She went on to become a Registered Nurse graduating from Marcy State Hospital School of Nursing where she made many lifelong friends. She continued her education at SUNY Oneonta and eventually earned her Masters Degree from SUNY Binghamton in 1978. Charlotte retired in 1995 from Wilton DDSO after more than 36 years of combined state service. At one time she served as the Deputy Director of Newark DDSO. Charlotte spent many years working and traveling between Rome, Newark and Wilton DDSO locations logging many miles especially those roads covering the North Country. She was very passionate about her work with the developmentally disabled especially community inclusion and the therapeutic riding programs.

On October 10, 1992, Charlotte married her true love and soulmate, Peter Hubal Jr. They spent 12 wonderful years together until his death on March 19, 2004. They will finally be reunited and buried together.

For many years, Charlotte was an active member of the Bartlett Baptist Church. She had a strong unwavering faith in God that helped her through many difficult times in her life. She taught Vacation Bible school and would bring all her grandchildren with her.

Charlotte loved reading, knitting, gardening, camping, bird watching, traveling and watching horse shows at the NYS fair. She attended many school and sporting events for her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her most cherished memories are those spent with her family. Charlotte’s love for children was obvious to all. She could always be found hanging out and playing with the kids. Her greatest joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She had a very special bond with her grandsons Cody and Dillon.

Charlotte was very fortunate to have found mutual love and healing with a special companion and friend Pete Podkowka. He has been a blessing to her for many years.

Charlotte was truly one of a kind. Gentle, compassionate, independent and strong-willed.  She loved unconditionally and could always see the good in people. She was the most caring and giving person, treated everyone the way she wanted to be treated and always led by example.

Charlotte is survived by her son Lance Coleman and daughter Audrey Sykes, grandsons Cody Bradley (Paige Nadeau), Dillon (Valeri) Bradley, great-grandchildren Tegan, Luke and Jaxon. Stepchildren Shelly (Jim) Kinney, Lawrence “Larry” (Melinda) Hubal, Rebecca “Becky” (Jim) McConnell, Robert “Bobby” (Ludean) Hubal, Katrina “Katy” (Tim)Tickle, and Brandy (Rich) Eaton, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and siblings, Sandy Kessler, Arlene (Michael) Occhipinti, Nancy (Rossi) Kessler, Karen (Jim) Herrick, and Dale (Lorraine) Kessler; many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
