Abraham A. Joseph, 88, of Old Bristol Rd, passed away at home with his family by his side on Saturday, May 5, 2012.
He was born in Kirkland NY on June 7, 1923, a son of the late Anthony and Freida Joseph. Abe grew up in Kirkland and graduated from Clinton Central School Class of 1943. He served in the US Navy from January 1946 to December 1947 aboard the USS Los Angeles. He attended college in Milwaukee, WI and Utica, NY. On November 25, 1954 he was united in marriage to Ann Cully of New Hartford NY at St. Louis Gonzaga Church. The house Abe and his family lived in is also the one-room school house in Kirkland where he and his siblings attended school . Upon completion of school, Abe built the Wheel Drive-In Restaurant in Kirkland NY which was family owned and operated for many years. Abe retired from the Masonic Home in Utica NY in 1988. He was a member of Church of the Annunciation, Clark Mills, the Clark Mills American Legion Post #26 and the VFW Post #9591.
He is survived by his wife Ann of 58 years; his five children and their spouses, Sheryl and Jack O'Roark of Overland Park, KS, Michele and Patrick Hughes of Carrollton, TX, Carol Brown and David Gillespie of Syracuse, NY, Christopher and Janet Joseph of Leesburg, VA and Cynthia Joseph and Ron Covey of Frankfort, NY; five grandchildren, Christopher House, Heather Rielly and her husband John, Jessie, Malorie and Jake Joseph; a great-grandson Jack Rielly; his sister Frances Gisondi of New Hartford; several nieces and nephews; and his special friends Mike Orsino and Joe Winn. He was predeceased by one brother and four sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Church of the Annunciation, Clark Mills. Burial with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery Utica NY. There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, Clinton.
