Obituary of Mary Jane Melie

Mary Jane Melie Clinton Mary Jane Melie, 78, of Fountain Street, passed away with her family by her side on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the Siegenthaler Hospice Center. She was born in Utica on September 18, 1933, daughter of the late Daniel W. and Margaret Herbert Dillon Nester. Mary Jane graduated from Clinton Central School and received her bachelor's degree from Ithaca College in 1955, where she was President and Treasurer of the Delta Phi Zeta Sorority, a member of the Newman Club and placed 2nd in the New York State Collegiate Badminton Tournament. On July 27, 1957 she was united in marriage to Frank R. Melie at St. Mary's Church in Clinton. Throughout her career, Mary Jane was a Physical Education Instructor at Cooperstown, Clinton and New Hartford Schools. She also volunteered at St. Mary's School in Clinton. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, was Secretary and President of The Women's Athletic Association, was nominated to the "Who's Who in American Colleges & Universities" and the Clinton Central School Sports Hall of Fame. She is survived by her husband, Frank; her daughter and son-in-law, Renee and William Downs of Springfield, MA; her son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Roxanne Melie of Clinton; four grandchildren, Mallory and her husband, Roger Ivanowsky, Marissa Downs, Daniel and Corbin Melie; her sister Shirley Hooson of Clark Mills; her brother and sister-in-law, John "Jack" and Sherri Nester of Clinton; sister-in-law, Jean Hawkins of Rome; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10am Friday, May 18, 2012 at St. Mary's Church, Marvin St, Clinton. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. All are invited to memorial calling hours Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 4-7pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton.
