Donald W. Farley, 96, of Clinton and a longtime resident of Clark Mills, Rome and Whitesboro, passed away at home on Friday, May 4, 2012.
He was born in Clark Mills on August 28, 1915, the son of Matthew and Mae Buck Farley. Don graduated from Westmoreland High School and St. Bonaventure class of 1937. In August 1940 he was united in marriage to Marian Sawner at the Church of the Annunciation, where he had been active in the church since his youth. He was a product manager with General Cable Corporation after 44 years of service, having worked at locations in Rome and New Jersey as well as at the New York City headquarters. Outside of his family and career, Don loved music. He started playing saxophone at age 10 and added the clarinet. From his high school years until the age of 85, he performed in many groups and dance bands, including the Mohicans. During his time with the Kirkland Senior Citizens, he was considered the unoffical photographer.
He is survived by his wife, Marian of Clinton; two sons, Robert Farley of Norwalk, CT, Donald and Jo-Ann Farley Jr of N. Caldwell, NJ; one daughter, Jean and John Schumitz of Aldie, VA; nine beloved grandchildren and four great-grandchildren residing in Virginia, Maryland, South Carolina, Washington State and New York City. He was predeceased in 1996, by a daughter, Mary Lou Harrington.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Church of the Annunciation, Clark Mills. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Clinton. There will be no public calling hours. The family will receive friends at the conclusion of the Mass. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, Clinton.
