Obituary of Mildred D. Bowen

Mildred D. Bowen, 95, of College St., passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012 at the Martin Luther Nursing Home. She was born in Gouverneur, NY on September 10, 1916, the daughter of Ira and Margaret Millson Maxiner. She grew up in Edwards and graduated from the local schools. On June 20, 1934, she was married to Edward L. Ward until his death in 1935. She then married George C. Bowen on June 20, 1937. After the death of her second husband in 1953, Millie went to work at Hamilton College bookstore. She also worked at Gorton's for many years and then the Park Row Pharmacy. She cleaned for Owens-Pavlot Funeral Service for many years and retired at the age of 85. She had been a member of Stone Presbyterian Church and the Vernon Center Presbyterian Church prior to that. Millie enjoyed needlework and was always reading a book. She is survived by her son Donald Ward of Cassville; her three daughters and a son-in-law, Dorothy Howlett of Westmoreland, Joyce Bowen of Clinton and Judith and Tony Mariotti of Westmoreland; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Bob and Paula Howlett, Debra and Rocco DiNitto, Edward Howlett and his friend Bill Griffith, Donna Wilson, Denice and Thomas Wilson, Sara and Tony Ancrum and Nicholas Mariotti; eight great-grandchildren, Carrie and Ryan O'Grady, Amy Howlet and fiance Brian Everetts, Shannon and Amy Knutti, Heidi and Aaron Moon, Jennifer and Andrea Wilson and Tyre and Hannah Ancrum; seven great-great grandchildren, Devon Duncan, Scarlett and Teagan O'Grady, Tyler and Sabrina Knutti, Jordon and Hayley Moon; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two husbands, two sisters, Luella Rudes and Marjorie Lockwood, son-in-law, Art Howlett and her granddaughter's husband Jim Wilson. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30pm Monday, March 19, 2012 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. Burial will be in Deansboro Cemetery. All are invited to call Monday from 11am-1:30pm prior to the services at the funeral home. The family thanks Dr. Burke and Dr. Kandiah for their care and compassion. They also thank the staff of the Willowway unit at Lutheran Care for making her feel at home, especially Rob, Linda, Becky and Elaine. Please consider donations to the Clinton Fire Department to thank them for all of their assistance.
