Obituary of Bernard T. Furness

Bernard T. "John" Furness, 74, a longtime resident of Oriskany Falls and of Loretto, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at the Siegenthaler Center, with his family by his side. He was born in Oriskany Falls on January 12, 1938, a son of the late Felix and Mary Anna Morin Furness. John was a skilled truck driver who worked in the area and in Florida for many years. While at Loretto, he enjoyed day trips to the casino, fishing many other activities. He enjoyed spending time with his family, most of all. John will be remembered as a gentle giant who was always smiling and laughing. He is survived by his son and daughter in law, John and Sonya Furness of Oriskany Falls; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Lance Nassimos of Madison; six grandchildren, Angela and Cameron, John Jr., Sean, Thomas, Lucas and Lindsey; a great-granddaughter, Sara McMicken; his brothers and sisters and their spouses, Louise McNamara of Bellville, FL, Janet "Bea" and Orin Frazier of Waterville, Buster and Barbara Ames of Deansboro, Ronald Furness of Knoxboro, Gene and Yvonne Morin of El Cambo, TX and Clara Furness of Cazenovia and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas Furness, two brothers, Thomas Ames and Peter Furness, sister Patricia Ames and sister-in-law, Georgia Furness. Funeral services will be held at 10am Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to call Monday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. The family thanks the Siegenthaler Center for the wonderful care given to John during his stay.
