Obituary of Rosemary Downey Chapple

Rosemary Downey Chapple, 91, a longtime resident of Clinton, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Valley Health Center. She was born in Fort Plain, NY on February 23, 1921, the daughter of James and Alice Detzel Holmes. Rosemary married William Downey, and together, they operated Downey Kennels for many years, raising and showing Cocker Spaniels. After William's death, she was married to Herbert Chapple who also predeceased her. She also worked at Hamilton College for many years. Rosemary was a voracious reader with a wide range of knowledge. She traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, China and Central America. She is survived by her two daughters, a son and their spouses, Marilyn and Robert Foley of Frankfort and Florida; William and Dolores Downey of Columbia Station, OH and Maureen Bali of Mattydale and her friend John Sedorus; six grandchildren, Marilyn and Tim Ploof, Michael Williams, Ryan and Joanne Foley, Dierdre Berkley, Spencer Bali and Lawson Bali; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and her sister-in-law Dorothy Holmes of Whitesboro. She was predeceased by her two husbands, her son Allan Downey, granddaughter Virginia Williams and her brother Roland Holmes. Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. Friends are invited to call Tuesday from 9am - 11am prior to the service. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park.
