Obituary of Kathleen Caughey

Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On Sunday, December 30, 2018, Kathleen T. Caughey passed away at the age of 91.

She had a strong faith in God and a great love of family, her Irish heritage, baseball (especially the Boston Red Sox), books, the New York Times, and people who cared about others, especially the less fortunate.

The Director of Nursing at Cortland Hospital for many years, Kathleen earned a Master's degree in health administration at the age of 60 and worked at Cortland Housing Authority until she retired at 78.

She was predeceased by her husband, Earl Caughey, and her daughter-in-law, Ann (Hudson) Caughey. She is survived by her five children, Maura Caughey (Kirk Coates) of Clay; Patrick Caughey (Marty Harrington) of Cortland; Margaret Raasch (Bill) of Wauwatosa, WI.; Sean Caughey (Nancy Cleveland) of Homer; and Monica Moshier (Ron) of Whitesboro; her seven grandchildren, Brendan, Dillon, Sean Patrick, Kevin, Mitchell, Summer and Trevor; and her sisters Mary Rose Mullen of Massachusetts and Eileen Mitchell of New York City.

A regular at the Milwaukee Irish Festival and Greater American Irish Festival in Frankfort, Kathleen enjoyed traditional Irish and Gaelic tunes, a glass of red wine, listening to NPR, working in the flower garden, and a Miller Park hot dog at a Milwaukee Brewers game.

A classy, dignified, and fiercely proud woman who was born and raised in Norwich, Connecticut, but lived in Homer, NY, for most of her life, Kathleen was a voracious reader and a firm believer that “If you’re lucky enough to be Irish, you’re lucky enough.”

There will be a private ceremony with no calling hours. Condolences can be shared online at OwensPavlotRogers.com and donations in Kathleen's name can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
