Obituary of Charles R. Slocum

Charles R. Slocum, 85, of Cassety Street, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 18, 2011 surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born July 23, 1926, to the late Ralph and Elsie Walter Slocum. He graduated from Oriskany Falls High School in 1944. Charlie served in the US Army during World War II in the Philippines and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. On May 28, 1949 at Oriskany Falls Methodist Church, he was married to Mary Fairbrother, a blessed union of 62 years. Charles retired from New York State as a crane operator. He enjoyed their winter trips to Florida. Charlie was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting and was a fan of the Buffalo Bills. He was a member of the Kelley-Phillips Post #569 American Legion, the Alliance Lodge #1097 F&AM, the Oriskany Falls Methodist Church, Oriskany Fall Senior Citizens Group and the Chenango Water Exercise Program.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Wayne Hunter of Oriskany Falls; two sons Tom Slocum of Oneida and Brian Slocum of Deansboro and his fiancée Tammy Geer; nine grandchildren, Michele and Dennis Carney, Sandra Hunter, Wayne and Kara Hunter, Heather Slocum and Mike DeBernardis, Stacy and Steve Abbe, Valerie and Sean Murphy, Jaclyn and Chad Misiaszek and Steven and Ryan Geer; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joyce Slocum of Oriskany Falls and Walter and Sally Fairbrother of Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother Robert Slocum.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 11am at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday from 4-7PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Oriskany Falls Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413
