Obituary of Agnes Cote

Agnes B. Cote, 97, a longtime resident of Vernon, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Presbyterian Home. She was born in New Rochelle on September 6, 1914, the daughter of John and Agnes French Blair. She graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1933. On May 23, 1936 she married John A. Cote, a union of over 40 years, until his death in 1978. Agnes retired from Hamilton College after 20 years, but first and foremost, she was a mother and homemaker. She was a past member of the Home Bureau, O.E.S. Rebecca Lodge #71 and had attended Vernon United Methodist Church. Agnes was an avid gardener and talented seamstress. She held fond memories of her several trips to Scotland, the birthplace of her parents and was very proud of her Scottish heritage. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Georgine & Gaeton Dragone of Jacksonville, FL, Barbara and Thomas Thurston of Vernon Center and Dr. John R. and Lynne Cote of Guilford, CT; seven grandchildren, Michael, Michele and Thomas Dragone, Paul Crane, Colleen Iles, Nicole Lackey and Alison Cote; seven great-grandchildren, Gaeton Dragone, Christopher and Erin Iles, Evanne, Carl, Clayton and Colden Lackey; a brother, John R. Blair of S. Salem, NY; son-in-law, Donald J. Crane of Clinton and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter, Janet Crane and granddaughter, Danielle Thurston. Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday, November 28, 2011 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Memorial Park. All are invited to call Monday from 10am - 11am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Vernon United Methodist Church, 5230 W.Seneca St., Vernon, NY 13476.
