Obituary of Donald E. Shantal Sr.

Donald E. Shantal Sr, 75, of Oriskany Falls, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born in Pierrepont, NY on March 11, 1936, a son of Joseph and Gladys Enslow Shantal. On August 8, 1957 in Deansboro, he was married to Ida L. Bishopp. Don worked many jobs throughout his life and retired from Town of Augusta as the Highway Superintendant. Don was a people person and enjoyed the friends he met at the racino. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and working on motors. He is survived by his wife, Ida; his three children, Donald Jr and Gertrude Shantal of Oriskany Falls, Deborah Jeffers and her fiancé Doug Eaton of Oriskany Falls and Denise and Steve Woodward of Deansboro; nine grandchildren, Audrey Shantal, Douglas Jeffers, Stephanie and Dan Leger, Margaret Shantal, Kelly Jeffers, William Jeffers, Steve Woodward, Bridgit Shantal and Donald Shantal III; four great-grandchildren, Tairyn, Kaitlyn, Emily and Daniel; his brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Pauline Shantal of Morrisville; several nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law, Shirley Crawford and Dorothy Burke. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Viola, Noreen, Doreen and Ruth and brothers, James, Floyd, Lloyd, Leon, Arnold and Everett. Funeral services will be held at 6pm Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton.
