John Walter "Jack" Hofmeister, a longtime resident of Clinton and owner of a farm on Brimfield St., died Monday, November 14, 2011, with his companion by his side, at the Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville. He was 79. Born to Earl and Ruth Hofmeister on April 11, 1932, Jack graduated from Clinton Central School. He worked the farm on Brimfield St., owned by the family since 1909, and married the former Sally Moyer from Deansboro. In his mid 30's with a growing family, Jack left farming to take a job at O.W. Hubbell. He supervised sign manufacturing until his retirement. A lifelong naturalist, Jack was interested in saving the American chestnut, bird watching and gardening. He is survived by his companion, Evelyn Johnson of Boonville; his former wife, Sally of Clinton; his daughters, Beth Allen of Clinton and Sallie Hofmeister of Los Angeles; a son David and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth of Rochester; four grandchildren Zechariah and Rebecca Allen and Connor and Lily Hofmeister; and a sister Evelyn Vunk of Scotia. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Shirley Van Cuyck and Laura Hofmeister. Friends are invited to memorial calling hours Saturday, November 19, 2011 from 9am-10am followed by a memorial service at 10am at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Memorial Park. Please consider donations to Kirkland Town Library, 55-1/2 College St., Clinton, NY 13323.
