Obituary of Constance Allen

Constance Allen, 89, passed away peacefully while a resident of the Martin Luther Home in Clinton.
She was born December 10, 1921,in Utica, the daughter of Charles and Irene Tyler Windheim. She graduated from New Hartford Central School. Constance went to work at Griffiss Air Force Base near the end of World War II. There she met J. Andrew Coyle whom she married. They first lived in a house on Champion Rd in New Hartford. They later bought a house in New Hartford and lived there until she entered assisted living at the Lutheran Home. After her husband's passing she met and married John Allen, who is also deceased.
She was a creative person, an accomplished seamstress and flower arranger. She made ball gowns for several of the young women in the neighborhood. They were always ornate and received a lot of compliments. Her other passion was flower arranging. She used to grow African Violets and would show her plants and her flower arrangements at shows sponsored by the Utica African Violet Society and some other shows. She frequently won blue ribbons and best in show awards. She went on to become a certified horticulture judge and traveled to judge several shows. She also spoke on flower arranging on several occasions. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her son J. Andrew Coyle (Maureen Harris- Coyle) of Haledon, NJ and her sister Jeanne Snyder (Alvin J. Snyder) of Oriskany, NY, a granddaughter Paula Marie Holmes and two great-grandchildren James Thomas Holmes and Crystal Lee Holmes.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10am Friday, October 21, 2011 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.
