Obituary of Minnie R Betrus

Minnie R. Betrus, 95, of Utica and most recently Clinton, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Valley Health Services surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 8,, 1916 in Utica, to Anthony and Rose Joseph Sheheen and graduated from Utica Schools. On November 20, 1938 she was united in marriage to Ferris J. Betrus Sr. at St. Louis Gonzaga Church. Mr. Betrus died August 4, 1996. Minnie and Ferris were founding members of St. Mark's Church in North Utica. You would always see her cooking fried dough at the many St. Mark's events. Minnie loved to cook for her family and friends and was always in the kitchen preparing food. She was truly a great cook and was happiest when sharing her cooking with anyone who came to her home and sat at her table. She is survived by her four sons and their spouses, Anthony and Joan Betrus of Stanwix, Louis and Debra Betrus of Clinton, Ferris Betrus Jr. and his wife Cathy Waller of Clinton and Michael and Marian Betrus of Hamburg; nine grandchildren, Joseph Betrus Jr., Katherine Betrus, Thomas Betrus, Mark Betrus, Eric Betrus, Lauren Vollmer, Lisa Betrus, Debbie Murphy and Erin Cavallero; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Julia Coccotti of Rome and Amelia Durant of Utica; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son Joseph and her daughter Helen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 10am at St. Mark's Church, Keyes Rd, North Utica. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, Clinton, NY. The family would like to thank the staff of the 1 West nursing unit as well as the many other staff from all departments at Valley Health Services for their extraordinary care and friendship of Minnie and her family. Their love and kindness will be remembered always. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her memory to Valley Health Services, 690 W. German St., Herkimer, NY 13350.
