Obituary of Gerald G. Smith Sr.

Gerald G. Smith, Sr., 92, formerly of Woodlawn Place, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 6, 2011. He was born May 13, 1919 in Rome, NY, the son of Alice (Paddock) and Lloyd C. Smith. He graduated from Westmoreland School in 1938 and served in the US Army during WWII. On March 30, 1946 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Warlick. They shared a devoted union of 63 years until Dorothy's death in 2009. Jerry was a member of the Shriner's and Clinton-Hampton Masonic Lodge #347 FAM. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Carm Smith Jr. of Clark Mills and Skip and Julie Smith of Whitesboro; three grandchildren and their spouses, Gregory and Teresa, Gerald III and Ann and Sarah; a great-grandson Joshua; two sisters, Winona Smith and Avenille Olson of Florida; in-laws, William and Gertrude Mahady, Barbara LaConte and Erick and Liz Warlick; a niece Billie Jean Judge; great nieces Shannon and Ronnie Jean Judge, nephews Clint Lane and Jamie Forsythe. He was predeceased by brothers, Lyle and Norman; sisters Loretta, Adelaid, Almeda and Sylvia; nice Debbie Forsythe and a grandson James Michael Smith. Funeral services will be held at 10am Saturday, July 9, 2011 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton with Rev. Brian McCaffrey officiating. Burial will be in Kirkland Cemetery. Friends are invited to call today Friday from 6-9pm at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held this evening at 7:30pm. The family thanks the nurses and staff of the Willoway Unit, especially Becky, Michelle, Linda and Donna for the wonderful care given to Jerry.
