Vincent dePaul Miller Sr. Clinton Vincent dePaul Miller Sr., 73, of Sanford Ave., passed away Monday, March 28, 2011 at Lutheran Care and is joining his son Michael Arthur Miller in Heaven. He was born July 16, 1937, in Utica to Arthur Joseph and Mary Thomas Miller. Vin graduated from UCA and was in the US Navy Reserves. On April 23, 1960 he married Carol Chase at St. Joseph-St. Patrick's Church. He retired as Post Master of Vernon Center after over 40 years of service with the US Post Office. Vin enjoyed playing cribbage, swimming and camping, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. Every Christmas he made his special peanut brittle with the secret ingredient. Vin fulfilled his dream of traveling to Wales to meet his Welsh family. He attended St. Mary's Church and was a member of Past Post Masters Association and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Vincent was able to remain at home during his lengthy illness through the love and care of his wife and family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol; a son Vincent dePaul Miller Jr of Rome and his friend Loretta "Samm" Barber; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Mary and Erick Miller of Central Square; his granddog Kolbe; a sister Zoe Anne Miller; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois Miller, Zelda Miller, Christine Eastman and James Chase; several nieces and nephews; special friends Mary Angela & Seth Cresswell and their daughter Alyssa, Gary & Dolores Stanford and Jack & Pat McCabe. He was predeceased by his son Michael Arthur Miller, two brothers, Arthur Miller and John Ellsworth Miller, a sister Mary Jane Baker and her husband Horace and a special brother-in-law, Robert Chase. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Friday, April 1, 2011, at St. Mary's Church, Clinton. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date. Friends are invited to call Thursday from 4-7pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. Please consider donations in lieu of flowers to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, CNY Chapter, 5818 Molloy Rd, Syracuse, NY 13211 or Clinton Fire Dept., c/o Jim Jenkins, Treasurer, 43 Beatty Ave., Clinton, NY 13323. The family thanks the staff of the Lutheran Care Gordon Unit and Faxton-St. Luke's, especially Mary Beth Dowling and her staff Mark, AJ, Donna, Sue, Anthony and Kenneth S. with maintenance, as well as Mary Lou Allard of Office of the Aging, Barb Leo of Visiting Nurses Assoc. and Vin's aides Debbie, Cheri, Kathy, Sue and Steve.
