Obituary of James A Zipf

James A. Zipf, 79, a lifelong resident of Clark Mills, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Faxton-St. Luke's Hospital. He was born November 27, 1931, in New Hartford to Alexander and Elsie Stark Zipf. Jim graduated from Clinton Central School with the Class of 1950 and attended their 60th class reunion last summer. He served his country in the US Navy on the USS Massey DD-778 during the Korean War. He was a welder and self-employed contractor for many years. Jim was a past member of Clark Mills American Legion Post #26 and a life member of the VFW Post #9591. He always enjoyed watching the NASCAR races. He is survived by his sister, Evelyn Petrie of Clark Mills; his "special sister", Dorothy Ginter of Albany; two nieces and a nephew and their families, Mary Lee and Paul Wrege of Clinton and their daughters, Natalee and Camille; Alan J Petrie and his son Michael of Clinton; and Esther and William Miller of Whitesboro and their daughters Emily and Jennifer. He was predeceased by an infant sister, Carol Joyce. Funeral services will be held at 4pm on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St, Clinton. Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 2pm until the time of the service. Burial with military honors will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua, NY. Please consider donations in Jim's memory to the Clark Mills Methodist Church. The family thanks the nurses and staff of the Allen-Calder 2 West unit for their care and support.
