George R. Crockett, 87, of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at the Siegenthaler Center. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on October 17, 1923, the youngest son of William Perry Crockett and Ethel Fullenwider Crockett. He was a graduate of Purdue University. He served twice in the United States Army and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. On July 30, 1950 he was married to Karolyn Clarice Gould at the Fairview Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis. The majority of his career as an electrical engineer was spent with General Electric in Utica, New York. George was an avid gardener all his life and friends and neighbors often found him at their door with a bouquet of roses or an armful of fresh vegetables. He also enjoyed fishing in his younger years. He was a volunteer for the United Way, the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army. An Eagle Scout, he was a staunch supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and volunteered well into his seventies. In recognition of his commitment to scouting he was the recipient of The William H. Spurgeon III Award and the Silver Beaver Award, both for distinguished service to youth. He also received the United Way Real Hero Award, the American Red Cross Outstanding Volunteer Youth Services Award and the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award for outstanding community service. He was a past president of the New Hartford Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow. He leaves his wife, Karolyn, of Clinton; his daughters Christine Crockett Morgan and her husband Dr. Mike Morgan, Jr. of Clinton and Susan L. Crockett and her husband Charles Knaack of Elkridge, MD; his son Dr. Jay A. Crockett and his wife Michele, of Greenville, SC; his four grandchildren, Matthew Morgan, Meghan Morgan-Smith, Chandler Crockett and Carson Crockett; his great-granddaughter Sadie Smith and his sister in law, Virginia Crockett of Indianapolis. He also leaves a special friend, Jack Cobb and a favorite cousin, Ralph Kelly as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by six brothers and a sister. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 1pm at the Stone Presbyterian Church, 8 South Park Row, Clinton. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 5-8PM at the Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., 35 College St., Clinton. Interment will be held at Sunset Hill Cemetery in the spring.
