Obituary of Elizabeth A. Brown

Elizabeth A. "Betty" Brown, 84, of the Clinton Manor Apts, passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Martin Luther Nursing Home. She was born in Catskill, NY on March 30, 1926, daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Cobb Alsid and graduated from Catskill High School. On September 11, 1948 Betty was married to Robert Brown at the Lutheran Church in Saugerties, NY. The couple moved to the Utica area in 1951. For many years Betty worked the switchboard for New York Telephone and as a receptionist at Slocum-Dickson Medical Group. They moved to Stuart, Florida where she worked at Luria's Jewelry before she retired from Walmart. Betty loved to sit on the beach and watch the ocean. She then moved back to Clinton in 1998. Betty loved bingo, going to the casino and was a huge NY Yankees fan. She is survived by her daughters, Debbie Brown of Clark Mills and her friend Linda Wilkinson and Barbara and Tom Mascia of Petersburg, VA; her four grandchildren, PFC Matthew R. Mascia of Fort Gordon, GA, Christopher and Amanda Mascia at home in VA, and Michael Mascia of Boston, MA; her sister Dorothy Ennis of Delmar, NY; several nieces and nephews in the Albany area, Casper, Wyoming and Missoula, Montana and her feline companion "Tipper". She was predeceased by her brother PFC Roland Alsid who died during WWII and her sister Joan Kiernan. Funeral services will be held at 10am Thursday, February 3, 2011 at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc., Clinton with Pastor Tom Lorenz officiating. Friends are invited to call Wednesday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in the spring.
