Obituary of Betty Gress

Betty Gress, 87, of Westmoreland, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at her daughter's home after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Clark Mills, on March 7, 1923, a daughter of Howard and Edna Dowsland Flickinger. Betty retired from Utica Mutual Insurance Co and was a member of the 25 Year Club. Betty had been a member of the Westmoreland Chapter O.E.S. where she served as a past Matron. She was also a member of the Clark Mills and New Hartford American Legion Auxiliaries, Kirkland Senior Citizens and the Westlanders. She enjoyed the bus trips with the seniors and making ceramics. Most of all, she enjoyed family gatherings. She is survived by her significant other, Alfred Zakris of Westmoreland; her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Dominick Testa of Cassville. Four grandchildren, Amy and Justin Barringer of Morrisville, Hilary Kielar and her significant other Jason Olender of Westmoreland, Chelsea Testa and Dominick Testa III, and her two great-grandchildren, Jonas and Sydney Barringer. She was predeceased by two sisters, Bernice Wharram and Doris Flickinger. Also survived by Alfred's children and grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 8pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. Friends are invited to call Tuesday from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Masonic Care Community or Hospice & Palliative Care.
