Obituary of James F. Burns

James F. Burns, 80, of Clinton, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center with his family by his side.
He was born in Clinton on December 16, 1941, a son of the late Francis and Katherine (MacDonald) Burns. Jim graduated from Clinton Central School in 1960 where he played on the varsity hockey team. Jim continued his love for the sport coaching Clinton Youth Hockey for many years. He retired from Hemstrought’s Bakery. Jim was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Clinton Fire Department, Westmoreland Golf Club, VFW Post #9591 Auxiliary and past member of Clinton Jaycees.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Joanne Burns; his children, Peggy and Mike Afarian, Michael Burns and Patty Hotton, Jill and Jim Brierley, Amy and Mark Franz, Chris Burns and Tammy Penree; his grandchildren, Kyle Afarian, Courtney Gillette, Amanda Burns, Nicholas and Christopher DiPrizio, Michael O’Donovan, Tucker and Sally Franz, Emily and James Burns, and Kylie Dowd; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by the Kruger family and friends Renee, Stanley & Chris. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Suzanne Young.
All are invited to call Monday, January 10, 2022, from 4-7pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at 10am Tuesday at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. He will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Please wear a mask and respect current social distancing guidelines.
