Obituary of Helen Kowansky

Helen Kowansky, 92, of Clinton NY, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2023.

She was born in Peabody, Massachusetts, on March 22, 1931, the daughter of the late Michael and Theresa (Zayac) Dook. On July 21, 1957, she was united in marriage to John Kowansky. The couple shared nearly 66 years of love and happiness. Helen was a devoted wife and mother, who doted on her daughters, nieces and nephews, and especially her 6 cherished grandchildren. She was a lady in every sense of the word and a true hostess, sharing her gourmet cooking with family and friends. Helen was a long time member of the Schooltown Questers, loved to travel, and spend time with a good book. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church in Herkimer, and a member of the “R” Club and St. Anna’s Altar Society.

She will be missed by her loving husband John; her two daughters and sons-inlaw, Elaine Kowansky and Ram Josyula of Longboat Key, FL, and Ann and Joe Gale of Clinton; her beloved grandchildren, Alexandra Gale, Louisa Gale, Audrey Gale, Charlotte Gale, Gabriel Josyula, and Mariam Josyula; two special sisters-in-law, Dottie Dook and Ruthie Zabinski; and her very special nieces and nephews, Michael Dook, Susan George, Sandra Berry, Paul Zabinski, and Tom Zabinski. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Paul Dook.

We send a heartfelt thank you to all of the caregivers over the years who took such wonderful care of our mother and allowed her to remain in her home.

All are invited to call Friday, August 4, 2023 from 4-7pm with a memorial service at 6:45pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College St., Clinton.  Helen’s funeral will begin at 10am Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, 305 Main Road, Herkimer, NY. She will be buried at Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Cemetery in Herkimer.
