Obituary of Bessie A. Asmer

Bessie A. Asmer, 89, a lifelong resident of Clark Mills, passed away with her family by her side after an extended illness. She was born in Clark Mills on December 11, 1919, the daughter of Albert and Emma George. In 1945 she was married to Paul L. Deep, who died in 1955. Bessie married Albert Asmer in 1963 - he died in 1975. She retired from Hamilton College in 1982, where she had worked for many years as a nurse's aide. She was a member of Church of the Annunciation and its Altar & Rosary Society. She had also been a longtime member of the Clark Mills American Legion Post 26 Auxiliary, the Kirkland Seniors, Westlanders and the Whitestown Senior Center. She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Paul L. Deep of Jacksonville, FL, Judy and Dennis Carstensen of Atlanta, GA, Sandy and Tom Anderson of Clinton and Diana and Gary Spaven of Westmoreland; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Valerie Deep; granddaughter Kristen Saville-Byer; great-granddaughter, Kelcey Spaven; and her brothers and sisters, Dina George, Katherine Deep, Fred George and George George. Funeral services will be held at 10am on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Church of the Annunciation, Clark Mills, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Tuesday from 5-7pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, Inc, 35 College St., Clinton. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Alzheimer Association of CNY, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204. The family thanks the staff of the Bryant unit of the Katherine Luther Home for the care given to Bessie. They also express their gratitude to the staff of the Special Care unit at St. Elizabeth Medical Center for the wonderful care they received.
