Obituary of Burton D. Seymour, Sr.

Burton “Burt” D. Seymour, a lifelong resident of Westmoreland, passed away on August 13, 2026, in Syracuse, at the age of 77. Born in Ilion, New York, on May 26, 1949, he was the son of the late Delos E. Seymour Sr. and Thelma (Waghorn) Seymour. Burt will be remembered by his family and friends for the life he built through hard work, dedication, and, above all, his deep love for his family.

Burt's strong work ethic began early in life, when he worked alongside his family on the farm. That early experience instilled in him a lasting appreciation for hard work and perseverance. Later, he put those qualities into building something of his own, founding Seymour Excavating in Westmoreland back in 1977. Burt devoted himself wholeheartedly to his business and took pride in the work he accomplished through years of determination, commitment, and hands-on effort.

When Burt was away from work, he was happiest when he could spend time with his family, tending to his farm and riding on his tractor.

Burt leaves behind his wife, Debbie; his son, Burton “Burt” Seymour Jr and his wife Cheryl; daughter Sue Gould and her husband Matt and their mother, Elizabeth; stepdaughter, Nichole Fehr; grandchildren, Griffin and Peyton Seymour, Jessica Deptola, Aneyia McGill, Ashanti Robinson, Tyler Royce and Tori Royce; his great-grandchildren, Lena and Ella, and Arleem, Za’ileana, and Kylee; brother and sisters-in-law, William Seymour and Shirley Seymour, and Deb Seymour; many nieces and nephews; and his Seymour Excavating Family. He will be missed by Showtime the cow, his ass Jasper the donkey, along with several goats, sheep, pigs and ducks. Burt was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Delos “Butch” Seymour.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 4-7pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College Street, Clinton.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 10am, followed by burial at Westmoreland Cemetery.
