Obituary of Sandra Martin-Smith

Sandra Martin-Smith, 67, passed away unexpectedly at home on June 19, 2026.

 

Sandra was born on September 16, 1958, daughter of Norman and Betty (Humphrey) Martin. She graduated from Westmoreland Central School class of 1976 and continued her education at MVCC and Russell Sage. Sandra ultimately received her master's degree and a degree in legal nurse consulting.  She served her country in the United States Army Reserves from 1981-1987. She retired from Marcy Correctional Facility as a Nurse Administrator.  She was united in marriage to Alan James Smith on December 28, 2012.  They shared many happy years of love and friendship.  They founded a custom jewelry business “Imaginative Creations “.

    

Sandra will be missed by her husband AJ; her sons, Joseph Karas, and Joshua Karas and fiancée, Kathleen Shoen; her Mother-In-Law, Sam Lenox; stepchildren, Emilee Janitz, Andy Janitz, Matt Smith and wife Kelly (Corbin) Smith; grandchildren Alden, Elsa and Ingrid Janitz; brother and sister-in-law, Norman Martin and Colleen Kain Martin; niece Chelsea Martin Calhoun and husband Dominick and their son Knox; sisters-in-law Vickie (Smith) Menz, Sherry (Smith) Knowle (Guy), former husband Joseph Karas, friends Donna Labriola Smith, Mike & Debbie (Rohl) Labriola and her special lifelong friends Trudy & Steve Pick, Rose (Romanelli) Duke, and Cindy Tamer; along with several step nieces/nephews and her cats Clarence and Hazel. She was predeceased by her parents. Sandy was an extremely compassionate person who always held her family close to her heart, she will be forever remembered and sorely missed.

 

Private services will be held for the family at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service.
