Obituary of Joyce L. MacGregor
Joyce L. MacGregor, 83, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on April 18, 2026.
She was born in Utica on April 9, 1943, a daughter of Joseph and Mary Louise (Diodato) Lewis. Joyce, a graduate from Clinton Central High School and the Faxton School of Nursing, worked as a Registered Nurse at Faxton Hospital. She then worked in Jacksonville, NC, and later on as Director of Nursing at Caton Merchant House in Manassas, VA.
She was united in marriage to Glen MacGregor on December 28, 1963. The couple shared 62 years of love and devotion. Joyce found great joy in becoming a mother. She put her nursing career on hold to devote herself to being the best wife and mother to her family. Joyce loved to cook and entertain for her family and friends, often starting early in the morning to plan and prepare special meals. She had a flair for interior decorating and worked as an interior designer for a high-end linen store for a few years. She truly enjoyed transforming every place they lived into a beautiful home and helping others do the same. In her spare time, she loved volunteering, knitting, and playing a rousing game of euchre. Joyce had a wonderful way of making those around her feel like family. Her greatest happiness came from being a grandmother and spending time with her family.
After her personal battle with cancer in her mid-forties, Joyce revitalized the Prince William County cancer support group while living in Gainesville, VA. She was truly passionate about supporting people with cancer. She was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, where she was known as the “Daffodil Lady,” organizing Daffodil Days and significantly increasing funding for the program in the surrounding counties. She was also the organizer for the Relay for Life events.
She will be greatly missed by her husband Glen; her son Scott MacGregor of Clinton; her daughter and son-in-law, Tracy and Hasan Alam of Chicago, IL; her granddaughters, Mayah Alam of Atlanta, GA and Aliya Alam of Chicago, IL; her sister Jude Lewis of Syracuse; her sister-in-law Betty O’Brien of Clinton; her aunt Yolanda Rozyla of FL; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews,
and many close friends. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Lawrence J. Lewis, MM.
All are invited to a Memorial Mass on May 26 at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church in Clinton. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service.
Please consider donations in Joyce’s memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd, New Hartford, NY 13413.
