Obituary of Carmelita J. Smith

Carmelita Josephine Smith, 80, passed away in Florida on March 10, 2026.

She was born in Utica, the oldest daughter of Santo Carl and Frances (Familaro) Pintacuda. Carm graduated from UFA and worked at General Electric after graduation.  Carm was a sweet, delightful and caring person. She shared a special bond with her sister that came later in life but was filled with love and devotion. Cooking was Carm’s love language. She could be found in the kitchen making favorites for her family and friends and was happiest hosting them for meals.  She was united in marriage to Gerald Smith on December 29, 1996. After Jerry’s retirement, they moved to Florida. A few years later, they came back home and decided to be snowbirds. Carm was excited for their winters down south but was always looking forward to seeing her friends and family upon return to Central New York.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Jacquie Raczynski of Lake Wales, FL; daughter, Renee Raczynski of Columbia, SC; stepchildren, Gregory and Teresa Smith of Barneveld and Gerald and Ann Smith III of Snyder; grandchildren, John and wife Dakota, Sarah, Kara, Kyle, Claudia, Noah, and Josh and wife Ashtyn; great-grandchildren Camari, Phoenix and Asher; brother-in-law Skip Smith and wife Julie; special niece Sarah and great-nephew Grantham; cousin Grace and husband Michael Cappelli; her many wonderful friends; and her beloved dog Mia.

Graveside services will be held at Kirkland Cemetery this summer. Arrangements by Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service.
