Obituary of Margery J. Mahanna

Margery J. (Nicholas) Mahanna, 98, of Westmoreland, NY passed away on February 7, 2026 after a brief illness. Born in Chadwicks, NY on December 2, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Jennie (Young) Nicholas. Margery graduated from Chadwicks High School in 1945. She was employed with Agway for over 31 years and was the Town of Westmoreland Tax Collector for 34 years.

Margery was united in marriage to Charles T. Mahanna on November 4, 1950, in Chadwicks NY. They shared a blessed union for 50 years until his passing on January 2, 2001. Together they had 4 children, 11 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Margery was very community-minded and active in several local organizations. She was a Charter Member of the Westmoreland Volunteer Fireman’s Auxiliary and was a member of the Westmoreland Senior Group, Westlanders, where she enjoyed the company of many friends. She was of Catholic Faith and attended Church of Annunciation in Clark Mills faithfully for over 75 years. Margery was an extremely hard worker and rarely sat idle, but when she did, she could be found reading a good book or playing cards.

Margery is survived by her sons William (Kelly) Mahanna of Iowa and James (Ann Marie) Mahanna of New Jersey; daughters Dawn (Joseph) Gomez of Massachusetts and Margaret (Anthony) Leone of Westmoreland; grandchildren Kendell (Patrick), Taylor (Kevin), Martin (Kasey), Peter, Matthew (Tess), Nicholas, Victoria (Tate), Michael, Allison, Allexis, and Lucinda; great-grandchildren Norah, Harrison, Josephine, Amelia, Scarlett, Graham, and Connor; and her niece Patricia (Robert) Brooks. She was predeceased by her husband Charles, brothers and sisters-in-law Harold & Isabelle Nicholas, Jr. and Norman & Bernice Nicholas.

The family would like to thank the staff of Clark North of MVHS Rehabilitation and Nursing Center who provided wonderful care during Margery’s final days, and a very special loving thank you to Lauren (Tim) Kornmeyer who was our “Angel with Wings” who brightened our mother’s days with caring companionship. Their kindness will never be forgotten.
