Obituary of John Henry Humphrey Sr.

John H. Humphrey Sr., 90, of Oriskany, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, at Rome Hospital. John was born on March 29, 1935, to the late George and Catherine (Stritt) Humphrey.

John attended Oriskany schools and enlisted in the United States Army. When he returned from the Army John married the love of his life Helen Ward on June 2, 1962. He joined the Local 35 laborers’ union and and worked as a general laborer for over 30 years before his retirement. 

John loved his family and especially spending time with his great granddaughters, they were his pride and joy. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and in his younger years was in bowling leagues, softball leagues and was quite the basketball player. Everyone that knew him would say he was a fun loving and social man.

John will be dearly missed by his son, John Jr. and his wife Pam; grandsons and their wives, Chad and Heather Humphrey, Adam and Melissa Humphrey; great granddaughters Chloe and Lexi; and cousins Tom and Betty Chamberlain. He was predeceased by his loving wife Helen, and siblings George, Margaret, and Joan.

Keeping with John’s wishes there will be no public calling hours or services and he will be laid to rest in the spring with his wife in Kirkland Cemetery.
