Obituary of Edward J. Jones

Edward John Jones passed away on Tuesday December 9,2025. He was 85. Born in Utica, NY in 1940, he was the son of Edward and Helen Thomas Jones. He was a graduate of Utica Free Academy, Utica College, and Syracuse University. He is survived by his wife Honore, of sixty years, and daughters Katie Ginter (Jack) and Susan Costalas (Steve), grandchildren Katherine and Jackie Ginter and John and Nina Costalas.

He was fortunate to have a large family of cousins, especially Gladys Thomas Collins and Richard Thomas who were like siblings to him. Additionally, Ed had a wealth of friends, many who were like family. In particular, the family would like to acknowledge Tim Killian, Heather Killian Metz, Robert Abounader, and Doug Jerold who brought Ed great love, joy, and comfort.

Ed enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tennis with his good friends. He and Honore were avid travelers and shared many unique experiences during their world-wide travels. Ed was most proud of his Welsh heritage and the struggles his family overcame to settle in America.

Ed was controller of Canandaigua Wine Company (now Constellation Brands). He returned to Utica and was a founding partner at Huta, Jones, and Torgersen, CPA. Additionally, he was Professor Emeritus of Accounting at Utica College. Ed’s interests were vast and he was a lifelong learner. He and Honore were active members of Plymouth Bethesda United Church of Christ, where Ed often could be found helping to serve meals at the Morrow Warming Center.

Ed was a wonderful and loving dad, husband and friend. He will be missed by many people who were fortunate to know and love him. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Plymouth Bethesda Church Morrow Warming Center, 500 Plant Street, Utica, NY 13502.
