Obituary of George Gennings

George (Scotty) Gennings, 93, passed away February 28, 2025.

He was a resident of Lake Moraine in Hamilton, NY and Leesburg, FL.  George was born in Welland, Ontario, Canada on June 7, 1931, the son of the late James and Elizabeth (Airdrie) Gennings Sr.

He married Anne Elizabeth Burrows at St. James Church in Clinton on October 8, 1955, a blessed friendship and love that lasted nearly 70 years. He pursued hockey at an early age, playing Professional Hockey for many years, finishing his hockey career with the Clinton Comets.

A resident of Clinton for 35 years, many happy days were at the home on Lake Moraine with family.  He cherished his five grandchildren, and they spent a lot of summer days at the lake growing up.

George worked in sales and spent many years coaching youth hockey and refereeing high school and college hockey.

George considered his family and friends his greatest assets. He had many fond memories of hockey and hunting with his sons.  They will miss his constant wit and humor.

George was a member of Clinton United Methodist Church and a member of Skenandoa Golf Club in Clinton since 1962.

Survivors include his best friend and wife Anne; two sons and their wives, Scott and Patty Gennings and Kert and Cheryl Gennings. He considered his daughters-in-law as daughters.  He also leaves five cherished grandchildren, Todd and Allie Gennings, Patrick Gennings, Meghan Gennings, Ashley and Trey Frahler, and Alexa and Zachary Hurst. Also  surviving are great-grandchildren  Maya and Jack Gennings, Chase, Maryn, Addison and Logan Frahler and Jullian Hurst.   Other survivors include four sisters, Margery Gennings, Shirley Moote, Mary Lou Gennings, and Diane Durley; in-laws, Douglas and Mary Burrows, Sandra Schmidt, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding George in death besides his parents were sister Bette and husband Louie; brothers James, Bill and Wally; father-in-law, Robert and mother-in-law Betty. In-laws; Marlene Brown, Fred and Louise Burrows, Denise and Bill Poynter and Doug and Dwayne Burrows.  Public are invited to visitation Friday, August 22, 2025, from 4-6pm at Owens-Pavlot & Rogers Funeral Service, 35 College St., Clinton.  A Celebration of George’s Life will be held at 6pm.  He will be buried at Crown Hill Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Clinton United Methodist Church.
