Obituary of Charles D. Hubbell

Charles Dennis Hubbell, 85, of Clinton, NY passed away on July 12, 2025, at Wynn Hospital. Born on August 31, 1939, he was a son of Barney Hubbell and Stella Curns Hubbell. Following graduation from high school Charles became a volunteer fire fighter for the Smyrna Fire Department. He worked full time at Tayco, when he moved the whole family to Clinton, he started working for O.W. Hubbell & Sons where he was a mechanic and finished his career there as the department head for the sign & guardrail Divisions. He moved on to work for Bundy Concrete, Husted Concrete, and Jefferson Concrete putting in and running their pre-cast divisions. He finished his working career as an independent driver for oversized loads. Charles had a great work ethic and knew many trades from his many years in construction. Charles was united in marriage to Margaret Mettler Hubbell on December 6, 1958, the two shared a blessed union until Margarets passing on February 8, 2025; there is peace in knowing that they are together again.
 

Charles was an avid outdoorsman; his best days were spent enjoying the outdoors. He especially enjoyed waterskiing, boating, hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling, if he could be outside, he was happy. Charles was a jack of all trades, he was a good mechanic, welder, carpenter, plumber, and electrician. He loved to tinker on projects and problem solve. He was always happy to share this talent with friends and often offered free advice. He enjoyed Radio Control planes and had an impressive collection of them. Charles was also talented at woodworking and loved to work on various projects in his spare time. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends he will be missed by many.
 

Charles is survived by his daughter  and son in law, Kim White and Douglas Eaton of Rome; two sons and daughter in law, Bruce Hubbell of Clinton and Christopher and Connie Hubbell of Oneida; sister Caroline and Dick Bassett; four grandchildren, Rebecca, Lindsey, Kaitlin, and Alexander; one great grandchild, Adeline.
Interment will take place at Wilcox Cemetery,  Smyrna, NY.
